Home and work-environment based training facility for humanoid robot opens in China

China has announced the opening of a heterogeneous humanoid robot training facility in central China’s Henan Province. With this Henan became the third place in China to have a humanoid robot training facility, after Beijing and Shanghai.

At the humanoid robot training facility, the droids will be taught real-life skills that will help them to become better suited for tasks at home or in an industrial setting. According to a report by the Chinese publication Global Times, the training facility was completed in a record time of just 40 days.

The process to build the center was started with the signing of an agreement at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) 2025 in Shanghai. The training center has opened inside a 4S store.

Inside the training center, humanoids will be trained in various sections such as agriculture – which includes plucking fruits, pollinating, and pruning plants. The droids are also being taught tricks to make their motions more fluid. Moreover, a specialized zone trains them to carry out inspection and maintenance operations in risky environments.

Chen Yang, business manager at Henan Embodied Intelligence Industrial Development, stated that the 4S store functions on a ‘front shop, back factory’ model. The model allows the droids to be made, trained, and made available for sale to consumers under the same roof.

Each droid gets a trainer assigned specifically to it, and every movement taught to it is saved to ensure smoothness in case of future upgrades. To put things into perspective, even a simple task such as folding clothes has led to the generation of over 150 million visual data points.

According to the GT report, currently the facility houses 140 humanoid robots that are trained in areas such as agriculture, healthcare, and industrial tasks.

China surges ahead while other countries are also pushing for centers

In the world of robotics, China certainly seems to have an upper edge when it comes to the number of humanoid robot-making firms and their output – both quality and quantity-wise. While the US also has some firms making good progress, Chinese firms such as Unitree, Agibot, and UBTech have released good bipedal droids at a fast pace.

Europe too is trying to catch up with China, but it seems the most affordable and capable humanoid robots would soon be emerging from the Asian Dragon.
